On March 10, nationally-known fashion designer Nina McLemore hosted a reception at her boutique in Chevy Chase to benefit Calvary Women’s Services.  Calvary is located in Anacostia and offers housing, health, education and employment programs for women in DC who are experiencing homelessness.  Professional women from around the region attended the reception to shop and network.  A percentage of sales from the evening will be donated in support of Calvary’s programs.

McLemore, a Washington resident, serves on the boards of a number of women’s organizations and is dedicated to philanthropy.  She said, “I feel strongly that we have a responsibility to support nonprofits in our community.  One of my passions is giving back to organizations like Calvary Women’s Services, and supporting economic independence for women so they can make their own choices.  It is a pleasure to partner with Calvary and help provide women who are homeless with greater opportunities to succeed.”

McLemore’s colorful clothing is thoughtfully designed for executive and professional women. Some of McLemore’s highest profile customers include former Secretary of State and presidential candidate Hillary Clinton, Federal Reserve Chairwoman Janet Yellen, Senator Elizabeth Warren and Gwen Ifill, co-anchor and co-editor of PBS NewsHour.

The fundraising and networking reception was organized as part of Calvary’s Women Empowering Women campaign. Women Empowering Women engages women from all walks of life and provides meaningful opportunities for them to leverage their passions, skills and financial resources to empower women who are homeless.

Through March 20, customers who shop at the Nina McLemore boutique in Chevy Chase can designate 15 percent of their purchase to be donated to Calvary.

About Calvary Women's Services

Calvary Women's Services offers housing, health, employment and education programs that empower homeless women in Washington, DC to change their lives. Founded in 1983, our programs carry out our mission to offer "a safe, caring place for tonight; support, hope and change for tomorrow." These programs include transitional and permanent housing, personalized case management, life skills and education opportunities, job training, health and wellness services, on-site therapy, and daily addiction recovery meetings. At Calvary, we believe that every woman has the strengths and gifts she needs to be successful. Each woman in our programs identifies and builds on her strengths, meeting her goals for safe housing, good health, and financial independence. We know that our programs work: every five days, a woman moves from Calvary into her own home.
