Last year I attended a terrific talk at the National Institutes of Health with my Transforming Communities seminar class. A number of students were interested in food deserts and food insecurity. The study results and lecture--The Obesity Epidemic: Why Have We Failed--was part of the NIH Wednesday Afternoon Lecture Series and can help inform public health and anti-poverty policy. The lecture is slow and may be dry for some but provides an interesting re-thinking of the obesity epidemic. If you are interested in food deserts specifically, be sure to listen to the Q and A after the lecture.
